What Is IVF?

What Is IVF?

  • Ovarian Stimulation
Fertility medications stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs. Regular ultrasounds and hormone tests monitor growth.

  • Egg Retrieval (Ovum Pick-Up)
The eggs are collected from the ovaries through a short, ultrasound-guided procedure under mild anesthesia.

  • Sperm Collection and Preparation
A semen sample is collected and processed to select healthy, motile sperm.

  • Fertilization
The sperm and eggs are combined in the lab. Sometimes, ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is used, where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg.

  • Embryo Culture
The fertilized eggs (embryos) are cultured for 3–5 days under controlled lab conditions.

  • Embryo Transfer
One or more healthy embryos are transferred into the uterus using a thin catheter. The process is simple and painless.

  • Pregnancy Test
About two weeks later, a blood test checks for pregnancy.
